Valparaíso
region, official administrative map
reported by António Martins, 25 Apr 2004

Valparaiso region has a different flag and arms.

Other sites:
It consists of three islands: Robinson Cruzoe, Alejandro Selkirk,
and Santa Clara.
The only symbol of the Archipelago of Juan Fernandez that I know of
is an emblem of the municipality. Flag
of Chile is the only flag of the islands.
Chris Kretowicz, 11 Apr 2001
No chance of a white flag with the
emblem on it, like in Easter Island?

Notice that Valparaiso is the flag of the city and is not the
regional flag. This mistake, due surely to a wrong or uncomplet
translation from spanish, is reproduced in several web pages one
copying to other.

It is from Norie/Hobbs, 1848 [noh48a].
Only information is the caption «Valparaiso».

Red and white horizontal bi-colour (reverse to current
Chilean national flag) with a white 5 pointed star in
square canton; proportion 2:3.
Nozomi Kariyasu, 21 Jan 2001
I believe that is a mistake. [It is the] Chilean
flag seen in Valparaiso, or perhaps a variation
(very frequent) of the chilean flag.
Jaume Ollé, 21 Jan 2001
Possibly this flag was really in use, as there was some trouble in
Valparaiso to get the Chilean flags from Santiago, so the authorities
in Valparaiso made them themselves. Maybe Norie-Hobbs
[noh48a] used the differentiation
as they knew that the Chilean flag hoisted in Valparaiso did not look
like those flags hoisted in Santiago.
Ralf Stelter, 21 Jan 2001
The 1868 Dutch flag book shows a white five-pointed star in
blue canton red over white.
Nozomi Kariyasu, 23 Jan 2001
The source is right, the flag but has a canton of black!
Although in the scan it seems to be darkest blue, the authors had a
grid of horizontal and vertical lines in the canton!
