The municipality of Cukarica, a part of the city of Belgrade, approved in 1997 the proposals of coat of arms and flag made by Serbian Heraldry Society in 1994.
The meaning of the flag is:
Ivan Sarajcic, 5 June 1999
There was an old proposal, from 1993, with trefoil vert between sugar-loaf argent wrapped azure dexter and a wheat sheaf or bound gules. The design of the new coat of arms and flag was a matter of dispute between members of the Committee of Cukarica Borough Assembly. When the final voting came, the votes were divided according to the party membership, so that even those members of the Committee who voted pro as members of the Committee voted contra as members of the Assembly. However, the voting gave an overwhelming majority to the new proposed concept (with the cross, as a Christian symbol). The cross has nothing to do with the Swedish cross.
