Description of the flag

Azure, three ships Or seen from front. Adopted by local government 15 MAR 1978. Three ships stands for three parts of municipality: Sunnmøre, Romsdall and Nordmøre. Additional symbolic are crosses that are seen on the masts.
D;eljko Heimer, 19 November 1995

Status of the flag

The arms of Møre og Romsdal were not officially approved, and so the county has no right to fly a flag. However, they do it anyway. The flag is said to be a white field with the shield in the middle.
Jan Oskar Engene, 19 November 1995

Many counties - and some cities as well - do not pay any attention to the law that prohibit counties and municipalities from flying other flags than those officially approved. The law was amended only a year ago to allow the flying of the Sami flag, but this has not affected the practice of flying flags that lack official sanction.
Jan Oskar Engene, 6 August 2004
