Alentejan heraldic motives

In this plain and rich region took place the largerst part of the “Reconquer” crusade after Portugal become independent. Dead moor are very often in local coats of arms — in Algarve, the southernmost region, coats of arms tend to bear upright and living heads of moor and christian kings — much more pollitically correct... Considering that Alentejo is traditionally a not very religious, communist oriented region, it is very strange why this kind of intolerant and nationalist coats of arms were not changed at all...
