Mutualista Açoreana de Transportes Marítimos

[Mutualista house flag]
by Jorge Candeias, 31 Jan 1998

A Portuguese company based in the Azores. The logo includes the flag Iʼm sending. The flying bird is not well visible, but it looks more like some kind of seabird than like a hawk. Itʼs quite a nice flag, in my humble opinion.

The white and blue background pattern of this flag consists of the International Signal Code letters Mike and Alpha, which are the companyʼs main inicials.

Naval

No idea on this one. I have a feeling that this is portuguese, but it is not based on any fact. A flag like the one Iʼm sending appears together with other “text flags” on just one pole.

Navex

Navex, Empresa Portuguesa de Navegação, SA (which translates as Navex, Portuguese Navigation Company) is a navigation agent, dealing locally with other peopleʼs businesses. This company has a logo that includes the picture of a flag. It is possible that this picture represents the actual flag used by the company. The flag in the picture is square, white, with a light blue and white funnel, charged with a red something that looks vaguely like a thick sans-serif italic capital "N", and something that apparently comes out of the funnel. For no particular reason (other than a hunch), since the source image but clear, I put there the company name.
Jorge Candeias, 28 Jul 2003

The company itself has a very low internet profile. I couldnʼt find a webpage or a picture of the logo, all I could find was the name of the thing in lists of port traffic in a couple of portuary authoritiesʼ sites, and some contact information. Looks like the company has at least two offices, one in Lisbon (the main office?) and the other one in Setúbal. On the other hand, the contact info for the Setúbal office includes obsolete phone numbers, so even this is doubtful. Dispite of that, the company is active enough to put ads in the paper, and deals with some foreign companies.

Orey

The shipping agent Orey Comércio e Navegação, S. A. is part of the Sociedade Comercial Orey Antunes, S. A. (website at www.orey.com). This company has a logo that includes a wavy triangular element, red over blue, that could be its flag.

Portulloyd, Scaniberia Line

Portulloyd house flag

This is likely to be a portuguese branch of some international company, possibly british. The flag, however, must be the one of the main company. The logo is this flag.
