Originally known as Rederi A/B Nordö changing name
by the early 1990s. It is not clear whether this is the Rederi A/B Nordic going
back to at least the early 1950s which was based Kalmar and then Oskarshamn with
in the early 1970s a company of this name but with a new fleet appearing based
Malmö. Acccording to the Collectors Corner cap badges, Nordö of Malmö had a
blue swallowtail with a yellow couped cross [see N126 attached] which is
supported by Josef Nüsse who shows such a flag under the title of Nordoe-Line
whilst also showing the flag shown here by FOTW for Nordö-Link so appears that
the Malmö company, if not connected to the earlier company, had a flag change.
My view of the Nüsse flag for Rederi A/B Nordö Link is that the colour is a
very dark blue, not black.

Shown under this name pre-WW2, subsequently
appearing as Carl Otto Hillerström and Folke Hillerström respectively as
separate identities out of the same address and apparently both using this flag.
In the early 1970s they combined as Hillerström-Rederierna before ceasing
operations.

The flag appears to be more correctly that of Rederi A/B Rex, Stewart being
the only source not to mention the connection. A/B Rex appeared in Lloyds 1912
showing under the control of Wald Beijer. By WW2 it appears under J.M. Källström
and then post WW2 by Ragnar Kallström and then by 1970 under Salénrederierna
though what livery was then used is unclear. The exact design of what appears
to be a compass needle varies with sources with Lloyds showing a bigger design
than all others and having a black ring on a solid core. Most others show a
design like that depicted by FOTW although judging by that appearing on a
funnel the white ring should be a lot thicker. To confuse matters a bit more
the flag on the cap badge appearing in Collectors Corner shows a gold ring.

I was Terminal and Stevedoring manager of Tor Line Ltd at the Port of
Immingham on the Humber Estuary from the inception of Tor Line in 1965 to
1986. Tor Line AB was formed by Rederi Rex (then owned by Ragnar Kallstrom) of
Stockholm, and Rederi Transoil of Gothenburg (thus TOR Line's name,
TransOilRex)

I always understood that the Rex Line (Ragnar Kallstrom) house flag and cap-badge was in fact a
compass needle, and that it was inclined at about 59 degrees being the Latitude
of Stockholm.

Scandlines, a company operating several ferry lines in the Baltic and North
Sea. Its house flag features the company logo, three parallelograms blue, red
and yellow, forming a triangle pointing down. The background was usually
white, both in real flags on board and at the Swedish side (and also on logos
in brochures and inside the ferries), but at the Helsingør harbour I spotted
a row of some four or five flag poles flying the same flag but with a dark
blue background.

There are several companies using the "Scandlines" name, the
Swedish one being Scandlines A/B renamed 1997 from SweFerry A/B. The flag may
also be used by Scandlines A.G. which is a Danish/German amalgamation formed
in 1996.A point though on the dark blue flag also seen in that if the field is
that colour then the dark blue of the logo would not stand out. On the black
funnel the logo blue appears to be a lighter shade which would then enable it
to appear on a dark blue flag field.
